In Brazil there's a custom among the mothers , in the shanty towns. When the children are crying with hunger in the evening, the mothers put a pan of water on the fire, put some stones in it and boil these stones. Then the mothers say: 'wait, wait, supper will be ready soon,' in the hope that their starving children will go to sleep, and stop crying in the meantime. Hey up Mr W. Hmm - if we can't agree on the physics of climate change, I guess we're even less likely to find any common ground when it comes to economics. That said, I'm still very much a learner (and particularly ignorant of macro) so if there's any killer arguments regarding deficit spending you have (links, whatever), it'd be interesting to see 'em.
